Warning!

Puhti and Mahti are being decommissioned in stages, and their storage areas will become fully unavailable from 15 October 2026. Clean up unnecessary files and move any data you need to keep by 31 August 2026. See the Roihu data migration guide for instructions on transferring your data to Roihu.

Puhti scratch is very full: keep only active data there and move or delete everything else. No new Puhti scratch quota will be granted.

Why is a user called 'system' using our resources

In the Billing Unit usage statistics displayed at MyCSC you can often see resources used by a user called 'system'. You and other project members have also used these Billing Units.

There are two reasons why the usage is associated with the system and not with any particular user.

  1. The resource belongs to the entire project, not to an individual user. Such resources are scratch directory quotas in Puhti and NetApp quotas in ePouta. Floating IP addresses in cPouta and ePouta are also shared resources.
  2. The reporting database used by MyCSC loses information about who the real user is. Currently the user may remain unknown with shortlived virtual machines in cPouta and ePouta. In the case of Rahti, all use is currently recorded without user information.
