Puhti and Mahti are being decommissioned in stages, and their storage areas will become fully unavailable from 15 October 2026. Clean up unnecessary files and move any data you need to keep by 31 August 2026. See the Roihu data migration guide for instructions on transferring your data to Roihu.

Puhti scratch is very full: keep only active data there and move or delete everything else. No new Puhti scratch quota will be granted.

How to increase disk quotas

Increasing the storage capacity in Roihu and Mahti

The quotas of the scratch and projappl directories of Roihu and Mahti servers can be increased if needed.

You can use MyCSC to manage these quotas.

  1. Login to MyCSC and select the project you want to modify.
  2. In the Services list, click Configuration for Roihu or Mahti service as needed. This opens a page where the project manager can modify the quotas.

You can check the default limits of scratch and projappl areas from the table below. Values in parenthesis indicate automatically approved limits. Applications with higher values will be determined in the resource allocation meetings every three weeks.

Note that the extended quota consumes your Storage Billing Units regardless of how much data you actually have in the directory. See billing for details. Furthermore, even after the quota is increased, the automatic cleaning process will continue removing idle files from the scratch directory.

Increasing the storage capacity in Allas

The default quota for a new project is 10 TB, but that can be increased if needed. Allas is the preferred storage site for any large datasets in the CSC environment, so you should not hesitate to request a larger quota for Allas, if you work with larger data sets.

To increase your Allas quota, please send a request to: servicedesk@csc.fi In the request, define what Allas project you are using, how large storage space is needed and what kind of data will be stored to Allas. If you have a data management plan available, please include it as an attachment.

Note that storing data in Allas consumes Storage Billing Units. In Allas, billing is based on the amount of data stored. The rate is 1 Storage BU/TiBh, i.e. 1 TB of data stored in Allas consumes 24 Storage Billing Units in a day and 8760 Storage Billing Units in a year. How to apply for Billing Units
